What goes into a good compost heap? 🤔

Compost heaps are one of the most important organic gardening practices and form an easy #DIY method to enhance the soil with no need for fertilizers.

Your heap should be warm, moist and alive with microorganisms and worms which decompose the material. 🌿Therefore, a good mix of different materials is important: Dry plants or straw🍂🍁, green or wet material such as hedge trimmings and leaves🍃🌳, manure from animals💩, and kitchen waste.
A good mix will give you a diversity different nutrients to feed your soil with.
The heap should be watered after each layer of material and covered in the end to retain warmth and moisture. Turning the heap every week or so can speed up the process.
